Ah yeah! Rev X.  A little gem from the ‘90s arcade scene featuring Aerosmith.  You know a game is going to be great when you mix guns, rock music, and ladies and then cram it all into a stand up arcade cabinet.  Remember: Music is the weapon.

Coda

The mid-season finale of The Walking Dead aired last night and I can’t believe we now have to wait until freak’n February to continue where it left off!  Lots of good stuff was in this episode to keep me interested in the series, but man did they kick things up a notch.  I guess that shouldn’t be a surprise when comparing to the mid-season finales of the past few years, but regardless, a good episode as always.  Love the other, quieter story that seems to be happening in the background.  Looks like its building up for something great.

I still need to watch The Talking Dead to see if there was anything I missed, then a dry spell until 2015.  Hope they have some previews for what’s in store for the second half of the season.

Missed opportunity

Aw man!  You stop following something for a few months and suddenly it surges with interest and then quickly goes dormant again.

I love the story of the Mojave Desert phone booth.  You see, once upon a time there was a phone booth that was placed in the middle of a desert, miles from paved road and any signs of civilization.  The thing is…this was real!

The guy who basically made this phone booth known worldwide recently had a Kickstarter that would help him fund the ability to make a book out of his experience regarding the booth.  I so would have contributed to this if I knew about it.  Oh well.  Hopefully I can still buy the book when it comes out.

But in addition to this Kickstarter campaign, the guy also did an interview with NPR regarding the booth.  AND on top of that there's a new documentary that was recently dropped on YouTube of the booth.  I’ve already watched the clips of a canceled documentary of it (it’s a lot of raw recordings for the doc), but this one is fully complete and worth the time watching it – if you’re interested in this amazingly awesome story of a phone booth next to a dusty dirt trail surrounded by nothingness.

With the summer season finally leaving California and winter coming into view, the winds pick up and the air gets very dry.  This is the time of the year when my nose usually bleeds like crazy from even the smallest of nose blows.  I lived with this for many years and just lived with the fact that I have a sensitive nose and feared the slightest movements (even just turning my head over my pillow while sleeping in bed, for crying out loud!) would trigger blood to bust out and gush for a while.

But then I realized something last year.  It was my diet that was causing nose bleeds!  Well, to be more exact, for creating the potential to have nose bleeds.

You see, my diet was very lacking in roughage.  Last year is when I stared changing my habits and began eating more salads.  In fact, most of my lunches now consist of salads.  When researching nutritious values of foods, I noticed leafy greens such as lettuce -- and especially spinach and kale – include huge helpings of Vitamins A, B, and K.  When looking into what the benefits of vitamin K are, I found out it helps with blood clotting.  Not the bad clotting that comes with eating a lot of meat, but the good clotting where it clots up when you cut yourself and a scab appears to stop the blood from spewing out of your body.

Based on http://nutritiondata.self.com, a cup of lettuce contains 22% of your daily value for vitamin K, while spinach has a healthy 181%, and kale has a whopping 684%!

Since including much more vegetables in my diet, my sensitivity to nose bleeds have dropped significantly.  And in the rare instance that I do get one, it quickly stops.  As you see in the photo, I dress up my salads with a lot of stuff.  Recently my salads consist of half lettuce and half kale or spinach, grape tomatoes, sliced carrots, croutons, shredded cheese, and a very small splash of fat free Italian dressing (so the cheese could stick to the greens and won’t all drop to the bottom of the bowl).  Most lunches also consist of apple slices and washed down with iced tea.

In addition to my lunches, I also snack on sliced celery sticks.  I cut them into small pieces so I can easily pop them into my mouth like potato chips.  I usually just drink water with that.

For a while I was thinking of researching pills to help with my nose bleeds, but it seems a simple change to my diet was all that was needed.  Take that, pharmaceutical industry!

Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga.  Two highly regarded games I’m hoping to save some time in the near future to play.  Thanksgiving weekend may be the ideal time to do so.

It's Mahvel baybee!

I’m so excited to show this off!  As you can tell from the image above, I finally pulled the trigger and got Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the Dreamcast.  Even though I love that I now possess a copy of this marvelous game for my collection, now wasn’t an ideal time to make such a purchase what with the holidays coming up and a dentist appointment later this week, but this is a game I wanted to get for a long time.

Actually, it was waaaaay more expensive a few years ago when I was originally looking to buy it.  Then after when it was released for the PS3 and 360 the prices slowly dropped.  I just happened to see a copy up for sale the other day and the price was great considering that this is a complete and very clean copy.  Seeing that this would probably be my only opportunity to get this game, I clicked the button and now days later I have it sitting on the Dreamcast shelf.

You always said, “wanna take you for a ride.”  Well, I’m here now.  Let’s go!

New Technology

Will be doing some minor backend maintenance to the website this weekend, so things may look funky from time-to-time if you check it out over the next two days or so.  I believe this upgrade to 4.0 of Windows Server NT will do wonders to this website.
