Resurrection

It’s cool to see that 1up is back online. Not that there’s any new content, but at least we can access the nearly ten years’ worth of previews, reviews, and blogs again.

My favorite part of 1up is the cover stories -- especially the articles written by James Mielke.

I was planning to release my backup copies of these cover stories on to my website because it looked like the 1up website was never coming back online, so I figured I should at least post what I had of it. But lo and behold it came back! If you’ve never been there, I highly recommend checking it out.

Hopefully they plan to get the videos back up, too (but I doubt it).

Hardy har har

Amazon sure does have a sense of humor. Earlier today I visited their website, and lo and behold, their homepage had the layout and design from the 1990s. Actually it wasn’t functional -- just an image. Once you clicked it, the actual homepage appears. That Jeff Bezos, what a card.

I went there because I just found out there’s an official DVD that documents the Attitude era of WWE (or WWF, whatever you prefer). This was my favorite era and was happy to discover that something like this actually exists. Then I saw the number of poor reviews for it and was quickly disappointed. This is all thanks to this weeks Giant Bombcast where they were talkin’ a whole lotta wrestlin'. They actually caught my attention when they noted how the WWE Network is going to have a host of new shows, including an animated short from Seth Green. I might actually check this network out since it’s only $10 a month with no contract. No foolin’!

Don Draper would be proud

Last night was the season finale of The Walking Dead. A lot happened in this episode -- and that was cool -- but the ending was a bit lackluster compared to previous seasons. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just summarize by saying it was a good episode overall.

In addition, they premiered a new set of commercials for the upcoming Halo 5 game. And while I don’t really care for the series, the commercial definitely caught my attention; more specifically, the first ad where Master Chief was injured, lying besides a statue of himself that is surrounded by wreckage and debris that stretches for miles all around. Spartan Locke walks up to Master Chief and points a gun at him saying, “All hail the conquering hero. The one who was supposed to save us all. But now I must save us... from you.” Damn, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I saw that. The other commercial during the next break wasn’t as good when both Master Chief’s and Spartan Locke’s roles were switched and it was Master Chief pointing the gun at Spartan Locke. Hopefully the game is better than what I heard Halo 4 was and lives up to the hype that this commercial presented.

Guilty Gear X

As I believe I’ve already stated many times on this site: it was this game that got me back into the genre of fighting games.  I enjoyed wasting many hours and quarters on this game at the arcades and playing its port and then follow-up, Guilty Gear X2 at home on the PS2.  But shortly after that I quickly lost interest of the franchise after a massive amount of sequels that relied on a heavy dose of feature creep until the amazing Guilty Gear Xrd was released not too long ago.  But let’s not dwell on this period and instead celebrate and praise the game that blew us away with its hi-res sprites, crazy moves, and awesome soundtrack.

Are you ready?  It’s cool!  Let’s enjoy a great show time!!

Bridge the gap

Finally got around to watching an episode of Pre-Flight, a new show for Toonami.  It’s about six episodes in now, and I have to say I’m more impressed with it than I was originally planning.  Hosted by Gill Austin and Jason DeMarco, it’s basically everything a fan of Toonami would want in a show like this.  You can catch it on Adult Swim’s website and they air a new episode once a week; and they keep looping the episode for a week.  That’s cool and all, but I wish they gave an option for us to watch previous episodes on demand.

They play their promos, talk about old and new shows, give a weekly topic with questions for viewers, music, and a segment with Steve Blum.  They also discuss a lot of inside baseball too (I loooove inside baseball talk).  If you’re a fan of Toonami, I recommend checking Pre-Flight out.

Also, new game article is imminent!  I’ll be posting it in the next day or so.

The Silence of the Llamas

Looks like Atari is ramping up efforts to put the kibosh on Jeff Minter’s TxK.  That’s a real shame because it’s an awesome game with great music and visuals. If you haven’t played it yet, I highly suggest you purchase a copy before it gets pulled off of PSN.  As for me, I just snatched a copy of the soundtrack, as I’m guessing that will be pulled too if Atari decides to take this to court and wins.

All is quiet on the western front

Recent IRL stuff has been keeping me from posting regularly on this website.  Apologies if anyone actually checks this site from time to time for new content.  Should be back in about a week.

My lunches mostly involve drinking tea, and I’m always captivated by the way how the tea bag “leaks” and its substance poured to the bottom of the cup.

Final four

I don’t have a PS4 yet (but I tried to get one a few months back), so I’m still rocking with a PS3.  That’s fine though as I have a huge backlog of games I still need to go through.  I don’t think I’ll get to every single one, but there are a mandatory four games I have to play before I move on to the current generation of consoles.

Spec Ops: The Line, Syndicate, Remember Me, and The Last of Us.  All of the ESRB ratings for these games seem to be spelling mmmm as in, “mmmm, delicious!”
